GUYMARA is a family-run company specializing in the design and manufacture of high-precision monobloc carbide micro cutting tools.

GUYMARA’s history dates back to the mid-90s. After 15 years working for a Swiss micro cutting tools manufacturer, Florentino Lisboa decided it was time to return to his home country and set up a workshop with an EWAG tool-grinding machine in Portugal’s Oporto region. With his passion for accuracy and all of the know-how he had acquired in Switzerland, he continued manufacturing micro cutting tools for the Swiss watchmaking industry.

GUYMARA was very quick to gain recognition for the high quality of its tools and its know-how. Today GUYMARA has a stable and diverse customer base in the watchmaking, medical and precision-engineering industries. With a staff of 10 people, its output is at the technological cutting edge.

Know-how and Technology

The quality of EWAG and ROLLOMATIC tool-grinding machines goes without saying, but the know-how at the heart of grinding is essential for producing micro cutting tools with complex shapes and micron-perfect accuracy.

GUYMARA operates several EWAG tool-grinding machines in its manual grinding department, where prototyping tools, small batches and highly specialized tools are manufactured.

However, the CNC department can also manufacture larger batches as well as tools that, for technical or economic reasons, cannot be ground on EWAG machines.

This atmosphere of hand-crafting know-how and hightech CNC output has generated a technological culture giving rise to products of the utmost precision.

Quality

Surfaces polished to a mirror finish, sharp cutting edges and strict adherence to tolerances are in GUYMARA’s DNA: each tool is cared for like a jewel, with every detail having a role to play. Every tool undergoes rigorous quality control and is measured during and after manufacture.

At GUYMARA we use traditional measuring methods side by side with latest-generation CNC measuring machines. In extreme situations involving complex shapes with tight tolerances, know-how plays a crucial role in achieving form precision of as little as two microns.

On request, tools may also be laser-engraved with a unique serial number to enable traceability.

The company’s services range from the production of tools based on customers’ drawings (including a feasibility study and examination of possible improvements) to advice on developing special tools for very specific applications. Machining tests can also be conducted on a CNC micro milling machine operated exclusively for this purpose.
